The Minister of Finance, on the recommendation of the Bermuda
Monetary Authority, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by
section 13 of the Bermuda Monetary Authority Act 1969, makes the
following Regulations:—

Citation
1 These Regulations may be cited as the Bermuda Monetary
Authority (Millennium Commemorative Coins) Regulations 1999.

Interpretation
2 In these Regulations —

"the Authority" means the Bermuda Monetary Authority;

"the Minister" means the Minister of Finance; and

"the Millennium Commemorative Coins" means the coins issued
by the Authority under regulation 3.

Issue of Millennium Commemorative Coins
3 The Authority may issue the Millennium Commemorative Coins.

Denomination of coins
4 The denomination of the Millennium Commemorative Coins shall
be as follows—

$1 (one dollar);

$2 (two dollars); and

$20 (twenty dollars).

Form and design of coins
5 The form and design of each of the Millennium Commemorative
Coins shall be in accordance with the sample coins deposited with the
Authority, and in particular—

(a) the obverse design of every coin shall be the portrait by
sculptor Ian Rank-Bradley of Her Majesty Queen
Elizabeth II in profile wearing the royal crown, together
with the inscription "BERMUDA" and "ELIZABETH II"
and the denominational value shall appear on the
perimeter thereof;

(b) the reverse design of every coin shall depict a sailing
ship against a millennium sunrise with the inscription
"QUO FATA FERUNT" below and the inscription
"MILLENNIUM" together with the dual years "1999"
"2000" above; and

(c) the shape of every coin shall be eight scallops.

Standard weight and composition of coins
6 The standard weight and composition of the Millennium
Commemorative Coins and the amount of tolerance and variation
allowed therein shall be as set forth in the Schedule.
