THE BERMUDA MONETARY AUTHORITY (SKINK COIN)
REGULATIONS 1997

[made under section 13 of the Bermuda Monetary Authority Act 1969 {title
16 item 11] and brought into operation on 27 June 1997]

SCHEDULE

The Minister of Finance, on the recommendation of the Bermuda
Monetary Authority, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by
section 13 of the Bermuda Monetary Authority Act 1969, makes the
following Regulations:—

Citation
1 These Regulations may be cited as the Bermuda Monetary
Authority (Skink Coin) Regulations 1997.

Interpretation
2 In these Regulations—

"the Authority" means the Bermuda Monetary Authority;

"the Minister" means the Minister of Finance;

"the 1997 Coin" means the coin issued in 1997 by the Authority
under regulation 3 depicting the lizard known as the skink;

"WWF" means the World Wide Fund for Nature established in
1961 for the conservation of nature.

Issue of the 1997 Skink Coin
3 The Authority may, in 1997, issue the 1997 Coin.

Denomination
4 The denomination of the 1997 Coin shall be as follows—

$1 (one dollar).

Form and Design
5 The form and design of 1997 Coin shall be in accordance with
the sample coins deposited with the Authority in particular—

(a) the obverse design of the coin shall be the portrait by
sculptor Raphael Maklouf of Her Majesty Queen
Elizabeth II in profile wearing the royal crown, with the
inscription "BERMUDA" to the left of the portrait, the
inscription "ELIZABETH II" to the right of the portrait,
and the denominational value of "ONE DOLLAR" shall
appear underneath the portrait;

(b) the reverse design of the coin shall depict the skink with
the inscription "WWF - CONSERVING NATURE" above
the depiction and the year "1997" underneath the
depiction.

Standard weight and composition
6 The standard weight and composition of the 1997 Coin and the
amount of tolerance and variation allowed therein shall be as set forth in
the Schedule.
