PAYROLL TAX RATES AMENDMENT ACT 1996

[Date of Assent 26 March 1996]

[Operative Date 1 April 1996]

WHEREAS it is expedient to amend the Payroll Tax Rates Act
1995:

Be it enacted by The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and
with the advice and consent of the Senate and the House of Assembly of
Bermuda, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

Short title
1 This Act may be cited as the Payroll Tax Rates Amendment Act
1996.

Interpretation
2 In this Act—

"the Act" means the Payroll Tax Rates Act 1995;

"section" means section of the Act.

Amendment of s 3
3 Subsections (1) and (2) of section 3 are amended by deleting
"11.5%" and substituting "12%".

Amendment of s 4
4 Section 4 is amended by deleting "6.5%" and substituting "7%".

Amendment of s 5
5 The following amendments have effect in section 5—

(a) Class A: delete "8.5%" and substitute "9%";

(b) Class B: delete "6.5%" and substitute "7%";

(c) Class C: delete the Class and substitute the follow-
ing Class—

"Class C

(a) a parish council

(b) a school which is operated
with the consent of the
Minister responsible for
Education under the Schools
Act 1926, or was in
existence at the commence-
ment of that Act

(c) a body (whether incorpor-
ated or not) which in the
Minister's opinion has been
established principally for
religious purposes, but as
respects only such aspects
of its affairs as do not
consist of or involve carrying
on business of a commercial
character

(d) a charitable organization
registered under the Chari-
ties Act 1978

(e) the Government

(f) the Bermuda College

(g) a Government board

(h) the Bermuda Festival Ltd. 4.5%"

(d) Class E: re-letter as Class D.

Amendment of s 7
6 Section 7 is amended by deleting "19" and everything after it and
substituting "19 is 4.5%.".

Commencement
7 This Act comes into operation on 1 April 1996.
