SUPREME COURT AMENDMENT ACT 1995

WHEREAS it is expedient to amend the Supreme Court Act
1905:

Be it enacted by The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and
with the advice and consent of the Senate and the House of Assembly of
Bermuda, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

Short title
1 This Act may be cited as the Supreme Court Amendment Act
1995.

Amends s 52 of Act No 4 of 1905
2 Section 52 of the Supreme Court Act 1905 is amended—

(a) in sub-paragraph (ii) of paragraph (a) by adding the
words "in England" immediately after the word
"barrister" where it first occurs;

(b) by deleting paragraph (b) and substituting the following
paragraph—

"(b) in the case of a person who has passed the final
examinations required for a person to qualify to

practise as a solicitor in England, a certificate from
the solicitor or the barrister and attorney with whom
he served his practical training stating the dates
between which that training was served; and"; and

(c) in paragraph (c) by deleting sub-paragraph (ii) and
substituting the following sub-paragraph—

"(ii) documentary evidence of his having passed the
final examinations required for a person to
qualify to practise as a barrister or solicitor in
England, or of his being a person entitled to
practise in a court of any of Her Majesty's
dominions:".

Commencement
3 This Act comes into operation on such day as the Minister
responsible for Legislative Affairs may appoint by notice published in the
Gazette.
