CHAPTER 220

COCKSCOMB BASIN (CLOSED AREA FOR HUNTING) REGULATIONS

(Section 11)

[8th December, 1984]

1. These Regulations may be cited as the

COCKSCOMB BASIN (CLOSED AREA FOR HUNTING) REGULATIONS.

2. The area more fully described in the Schedule hereto is hereby declared to be an area closed for hunting.

3. The hunting of any wildlife of any species in the said area is hereby prohibited. The contravention of the foregoing provisions of this Regulation shall constitute an offence and the offender shall be liable to punishment on summary conviction by a fine not exceeding five hundred dollars or imprisonment not exceeding six months or both such fine and imprisonment.

SCHEDULE

COCKSCOMB BASIN WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

ALL THAT piece or parcel of land lying and being in the Stann Creek District and being now or formerly National Lands and hereinafter referred to as the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary and bounded on the North by the Cockscomb Range of Mountain the Victoria Peak, the southern boundaries of Estates Number 110 and 109 known as the Finish and Golden Pippin respectively and part of southern boundary of Estate number 108 known as Plenty shown on Government Property Map lodged in the Survey Department

in Belmopan, on the East by part of the Western boundary of Hughes Estate numbered 111 on the said Government Property Map, on the South by National Lands and parts of the Western and Northern boundaries of Red Bank Estate numbered 115 on the said Government Property Map and on the West by part of the Main Divide and containing approximately 160 square miles and being more particularly described as follows:

Commencing at the Southwest corner of the said estate numbered 110; thence easterly along the southern boundary of the said estate for a distance of 2150 metres more or less to the southwest corner of the said estate numbered 109; thence southeasterly along the southern boundary of the said numbered 109 estate for a distance of 3800 metres more or less to the southwestern corner of the estate numbered 108 hereinafter mentioned; thence southeasterly along the southern boundary of the said numbered 108 for a distance of 300 metres more or less to a point on the southern boundary of the estate 108 hereinafter mentioned; thence south for a distance of 650 metres more or less to a point having the U.T.M. coordinates of northing 1856000 meters and easting 346500 metres; thence west for a distance of 1,000 metres more or less to a point having the U.T.M. coordinates of northing 1856000 metres and easting 345500 metres; thence south for a distance of 1000 metres more or less to a point having the U.T.M. coordinates of northing 1855000 metres and easting 345500 metres; thence west for a distance of 500 metres more or less to a point having the U.T.M. coordinates of northing 1855000 metres and easting 345000 metres; thence south for a distance of 1,000 metres more or less to a point having the U.T.M. coordinates of northing 1854000 metres and easting 345000 metres; thence west for a distance of 2000 metres more or less having the coordinates of northing 1854000 metres, and easting 343000 metres; thence south for a distance of 1000 metres more or less to a point having the U.T.M. coordinates of northing 1853000 metres and easting 343000 metres, thence west for a distance of 3000 metres more or less to a point having U.T.M. coordinates of northing 1853000 metres and easting 340000 metres; thence south for a distance of 1000 metres more or less to a point having U.T.M. coordinates of northing 1852000 metres and easting 340000 metres; thence west for a distance of 1000 metres more or less to a point having the U.T.M.

CHAPTER 220

GAME RESERVES ORDER (Section 11)

1. This Proclamation may be cited as the

GAME RESERVES ORDER.

2. The area of land specified in the Schedule hereto shall be a game reserve.

Game Reserve - Faber’s Lagoon Bird Sanctuary

All the area of national land in the Belize District which lies within a radius of one mile measured from the centre of Faber’s Lagoon excluding all lands leased and granted by the Crown in right of the Government of Belize.

CHAPTER 220

WILDLIFE PROTECTION REGULATIONS (Section 11)

1. These Regulations may be cited as the

WILDLIFE PROTECTION REGULATIONS.

2. The killing of deer or antelope with a view to the sale of the meat is prohibited from the 1st July of each year to the 30th September of the same year in the case of males and to the last day of February of the following year in the case of females.

3. The close season of the hunting of any bird specified in the Fourth Schedule to the Wildlife Protection Act, shall be from the 1st February to the 15th July in each year.

4. The use of any artificial light to facilitate the shooting of any animal is prohibited.

5. The use in hunting fish of any substance locally know as “fish poison” is prohibited.

6. (1) Applications for licences under the Wildlife Protection Act shall be made to the Game Warden who may at his discretion issue a licence on payment of the following fees:

A Dealer’s Licence .................................. $2,000.00 A Visiting-hunter Licence ......................... $ 100.00 A Local-hunter Licence ............................ $ 10.00 An Annual Game Licence-

To Nationals ................................ $ 500.00 To Others .................................... $1,000.00

(2) Licences shall be in the form and subject to the conditions and for the period as to the Game Warden may seem fit.

(3) Licences shall not be transferable.

(4) No licence shall shall be issued for a period exceeding one year from the date of issue.
