CHAPTER 25

DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC PROSECUTIONS (PRESCRIBED AGE)

1. This Act may be cited as the Director of Public Prosecutions (Pre- scribed Age) Act.

2. For the purpose of subsection (5) of section 108 of the Belize Consti- tution (which provides that the Director of Public Prosecutions shall vacate his office when he attains the age of sixty years or such other age as may be prescribed by the National Assembly), the prescribed age is, in pursuance of that subsection, hereby prescribed to be seventy years:

Provided that a person may be appointed, or may continue in office, as Director of Public Prosecutions after the age of sixty-two years only with the special permission of the Governor-General, acting in accordance with the advice of the Judicial and Legal Services Section of the Public Services Commission and with the concurrence of the Prime Minister, given after consultation with the Leader of the Opposition.
