Interpretation
1. Regulation 3 of the Wireless Telegraphy Regulations is amended- (a) by inserting after the definition of "authorized station" in sub-regulation (1) the following definitions: " 'base station' means a station on land established for the purpose of communicating with land mobile stations and harbour mobile stations; 'coast station' means a station on land established for the purpose of communicating with ship stations at sea and aircraft stations, being a station an important function of which is the transmission and reception of messages on behalf of the public; 'disaster station' means a station having the function of providing a radiocommunications service in connection with natural disasters and civil defence activities; 'earth station' means a station located on the surface of the earth or within the major portion of the earth's atmosphere that is established for the purpose of communicating with- (a) 1 or more other earth stations by means of 1 or more satellites or other objects in space; or (b) 1 or more space stations; 'earth station, Class A' means an earth station capable of carrying not more than 1 voice channel; 'earth station, Class B' means an earth station capable of carrying more than 1 but not more than 12 voice channels; 'earth station, Class C' means an earth station, other than an earth station, Class A or an earth station, Class B, capable of utilizing not more than 1 satellite transponder; 'earth station, Class D' means an earth station capable of utilizing more than 1 but not more than 2 satellite transponders; 'earth station, Class E' means an earth station capable of utilizing more than 2 satellite transponders; 'exterior paging station' means a station on land established for the purpose of providing a paging service but does not include an interior paging station or a station that provides a paging service that is incidental to the operation of another station; 'fixed station' means a station on land established for the purpose of communicating between fixed points but does not include an earth station, a fixed outpost station or a fixed receiving station;"; (b) by omitting ", for use by a Commonwealth authority" from the definition of "fixed station, Class A" in sub-regulation (1); (c) by omitting ", for use by a Commonwealth authority" from the definition of "fixed station, Class B" in sub-regulation (1); and (d) by inserting after the definition of "licensee" in sub-regulation (1) the following definition: " 'limited coast station' means a station on land established for the purpose of communicating with ship stations at sea but does not include a coast station or a marine rescue station;". 1981 No. 184 WIRELESS TELEGRAPHY REGULATIONS (AMENDMENT) - REG 2
Licences
2. Regulation 5 of the Wireless Telegraphy Regulations is amended- (a) by omitting from sub-regulation (1) "sub-regulation (2) of this regulation" and substituting "sub-regulations (2) and (3)"; (b) by omitting from sub-regulation (2) "the last two preceding sub-regulations" and substituting "these Regulations"; and (c) by adding at the end thereof the following sub-regulation: "(3) A licence, in accordance with such form as the Minister determines, may be granted in respect of a station that is an exterior paging station.". 1981 No. 184 WIRELESS TELEGRAPHY REGULATIONS (AMENDMENT) - REG 3
Licence fees
3. Regulation 7 of the Wireless Telegraphy Regulations is amended- (a) by omitting sub-regulation (1) and substituting the following sub-regulations: "(1) Subject to this regulation, a fee is payable in respect of the grant or renewal of a licence included in a class of licence specified in column 2 of an item in the Schedule and is calculated by reference to the period in respect of which the licence is granted or renewed at the rate specified in column 3 of that item. "(1AA) Where- (a) a licence is granted or renewed for a period of less than 1 year; and (b) the fee payable would, but for this sub-regulation, be less than $15, then, (c) in the case of a licence in respect of which a fee is payable at a rate per year in excess of $15-a fee of $15 is payable; and (d) in any other case-a fee is payable of an amount equal to the amount that would be payable if the licence were for a period of 1 year. "(1AB) A fee calculated in accordance with sub-regulation (1AC) is payable in respect of the grant or renewal of a licence for an exterior paging station. "(1AC) The fee referred to in sub-regulation (1AB) is an amount equal to the aggregate of- (a) an amount calculated at the rate of $56 per annum in respect of the period of the licence; and (b) an amount calculated at the rate of $12 per annum in respect of the period of the licence in respect of each paging receiver used in connection with that station."; and (b) by omitting from sub-regulation (1A) "the last preceding sub-regulation" and substituting " the preceding sub-regulations". 1981 No. 184 WIRELESS TELEGRAPHY REGULATIONS (AMENDMENT) - REG 4
Schedule
4.
