    FISHERIES MANAGEMENT ACT 1991 EASTERN TUNA AND BILLFISH FISHERY MANAGEMENT PLAN 2005   EASTERN TUNA AND BILLFISH FISHERY DIRECTION No. 2 OF 2006   CLOSURE OF NORTHERN WATERS TO LONGLINE FISHING     I, Richard McLoughlin, Managing Director of the Australian Fisheries Management Authority, as delegate, make the following Direction under sub-sections 17(5A) and 17(5B) of the Fisheries Management Act 1991 and sub-section 12(1) of the Eastern Tuna and Billfish Fishery Management Plan 2005.   Dated  21   August 2006     Richard McLoughlin     Managing Director, Australian Fisheries Management Authority ------------------------------------------   Citation 1.         This Direction is the Eastern Tuna and Billfish Fishery Direction No. 2 of 2006. 2.         This Direction commences on the day after it is registered. Application
3.         This Direction applies to a holder of a fishing permit authorising the use of a boat in the Eastern Tuna and Billfish Fishery, and to a person acting on behalf of the holder, when longline fishing in the Eastern Tuna and Billfish Fishery area. Period of Application
4.         This Direction applies for a period beginning on 28 August 2006 and ending on 31 December 2006.   [Notes:   1. Terms defined in the Fisheries Management Act 1991 have the same meanings in this Direction. 2. Terms defined in the Eastern Tuna and Billfish Fishery Management Plan 2005 include "Eastern Tuna and Billfish Fishery" and "Area of the fishery". ] Interpretation
5.1       A term used in this Direction that is used in the Eastern Tuna and Billfish Fishery Management Plan 2005 has the same meaning in this Direction as it has in that plan. 5.2       This Direction is to be read consistently with other Directions made under the Eastern Tuna and Billfish Fishery Management Plan 2005. 5.3       The origin of geographical coordinates used in this Direction is the Geocentric Datum of Australia (GDA94). Prohibitions on fishing 6.         No longline fishing is to be undertaken in waters within the area of the fishery bounded by a line from: (a)    latitude 250South, longitude 1550 East; (b)    to latitude 180 South, longitude 1520 East; (c)    North to the intersection of  longitude 1520 East with the outer boundary of the Australian Fishing Zone; (d)    generally Easterly, then Southerly along the outer boundary of the Australian Fishing Zone to its intersection with latitude 250South; (e)    West along latitude 250South to its intersection with longitude 1550 East.   Exemptions to the prohibition on fishing in clause 6 7.      The prohibition in clause 6 does not apply to fishing under an ETBF permit that has a condition stating that it is “exempted from the Closure of Northern Waters to Longline Fishing” for the purposes of this Direction.
