MIGRATION AGENTS
(CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT –
AUTHORSHIP AND PUBLICATION OF ARTICLES)
 
MARA NOTICE MN42-07d OF 16/10/2007
 
 
The Migration Agents Registration Authority, acting under clause 3 of Schedule 1 to the Migration Agents Regulations 1998:
 
(1)               REVOKES the notice entitled Migration Agents (Continuing Professional
Development - Authorship and Publication of Articles) MARA Notice MN37 of 2003, published on 10/09/2003; and
 
(2)       SPECIFIES that the authorship and publication of a detailed article of at least 1,000 words in a journal or magazine described in column 2 of an item in the attached Schedule is an approved activity for the purposes of that clause and that that activity is:
 
      (a)       a core activity having the value of 2 points, if the article;

(i)         relates specifically to the Migration Act 1958, the Migration Regulations and other legislation relating to migration procedure or migration portfolio policies and procedures; and

(ii)               contributes in a positive manner to the development and practice of immigration law; and

(iii)              has not been previously published in substantially the same form; and
is not the published version of a paper, or of papers, presented at another approved activity for which the author has been awarded a point; or
 
      (b)       an elective activity having the value of 2 points, if the article:

(i)         deals with a topic of a legal or business nature relating to migration agents’ practice; and

(ii)               complies with subparagraphs 2(a) (i), (ii) and (iii).
 
This notice has effect on and from 1 April 1998.
