Determination 2008/12:
Members of Parliament – Travelling Allowance
 
(i)        Pursuant to subsections 7(3) and 7(4) of the Remuneration Tribunal Act 1973, the Remuneration Tribunal has inquired into the remuneration and allowances to be paid to holders of public office, and other matters significantly related thereto, and determines as set out below.
 
(ii)        This Determination takes effect on and from the day following the day it is registered in the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments unless otherwise specified.
 
PART 1 – MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT
 
1.1       In this part, Determination Number 15 of 2007 (as amended) is referred to as the Principal Determination.
 
1.2       The Principal Determination is amended by replacing subclause 2.22.1 with the following wording: “2.22.1 The Chief Whips of the Government and Opposition in the House of Representatives, when travelling outside their home base and outside Canberra on duties and functions connected with their office, shall be entitled to travelling allowance in respect of each overnight stay occasioned by such duties and functions, to a maximum of 20 nights in each 12 month period, commencing 1 July 2008”.
 
1.3       The Principal Determination is amended by adding subclause 2.22.2 after clause 2.22.1 with the following wording: “2.22.2 The Whips of the Government and Opposition in the Senate, when travelling outside their home base and outside Canberra on duties and functions connected with their office, shall be entitled to travelling allowance in respect of each overnight stay occasioned by such duties and functions, to a maximum of ten nights in each 12 month period, commencing 1 July 2008.  This entitlement shall be limited to the principal Government Whip and principal Opposition Whip”.
