I, QUENTIN BRYCE, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, make the following Regulations under the Crimes (Overseas) Act 1964.

1              Name of Regulations
                These Regulations are the Crimes (Overseas) (Declared Foreign Countries) Amendment Regulations 2009 (No. 1).
2              Commencement
                These Regulations commence on 1 July 2009.
3              Amendment of Crimes (Overseas) (Declared Foreign Countries) Regulations 2003
                Schedule 1 amends the Crimes (Overseas) (Declared Foreign Countries) Regulations 2003.

6              Papua New Guinea
         (1)   For paragraph 3C (1) (a) of the Act, Papua New Guinea is a declared foreign country for the purposes of the Act.
         (2)   For subsection 3C (3) of the Act:
                (a)    Papua New Guinea is taken to have been a declared foreign country for the purposes of the Act on and after 1 July 2009; and
               (b)    Papua New Guinea is to cease being a declared foreign country for the purposes of the Act on 30 June 2014.
7              Afghanistan
         (1)   For paragraph 3C (1) (a) of the Act, Afghanistan is a declared foreign country for the purposes of the Act.
         (2)   For subsection 3C (3) of the Act:
                (a)    Afghanistan is taken to have been a declared foreign country for the purposes of the Act on and after 1 July 2009; and
               (b)    Afghanistan is to cease being a declared foreign country for the purposes of the Act on 30 June 2014.
