Determination 2009/06:
Members of Parliament – Travelling Allowance and Entitlements
 
(i)        Pursuant to subsections 7(1) and 7(4) of the Remuneration Tribunal Act 1973, the Remuneration Tribunal has inquired into the remuneration and allowances to be paid to members of the Parliament, and other matters significantly related thereto, and determines as set out below.
 
(ii)        This Determination takes effect on and from the day following the day it is registered in the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments unless otherwise specified.
 
PART 1 – TRAVELLING ALLOWANCE
 
1.1       In this part, Determination Number 15 of 2008 (as amended) is referred to as the Principal Determination.
 
1.2             Clause 2.13.2 of the Principal Determination is amended by deleting the phrase ‘whose electorate includes islands or separate regional areas’ and replacing it with the phrase ‘whose electorate includes islands, other than external territories, or separate regional areas’.
 
1.3             The Principal Determination is amended by adding clause 2.13.3 after clause 2.13.2, with the following wording:
 
         2.13.3 The Member for Bowman may access up to a maximum of six overnight stays per annum for electorate business on North Stradbroke Island.
 
 
PART 2 – ENTITLEMENTS
 
2.1       In this part, Determination Number 18 of 2006 (as amended) is referred to as the Principal Determination.
 
2.2             Clause 4.3 of the Principal Determination is amended by deleting the reference in the clause to ‘clause 5.1 and 5.4’ and replacing it with the words ‘clause 5.1, 5.2 and 5.4’. 
 
2.3             The Principal Determination is amended by including the following after clause 4.5:
 
Private Vehicle as an alternative to Car Transport provision
 
4.6         Instead of exercising his or her entitlement to car transport at government expense under clause 3.10 of this Determination, a senator or member may choose to use his or her private vehicle or private plated Commonwealth vehicle provided under clause 5.1, 5.2 and 5.4.  Where due economy is served by their making this choice, the senator or member shall be entitled to park at the relevant airport at government expense.
