I, TANYA PLIBERSEK, Minister for Human Services, give this Direction under paragraph 5(1)(d) of the Medicare Australia Act 1973.

1                            Name of Direction
                This Direction is the Medicare Australia (Functions of Chief Executive Officer) Direction 2011 (No. 1).
2                            Commencement
                This Direction commences on the day it is registered.
3                            Definitions
                In this Direction:
Act means the Medicare Australia Act 1973.
Chief Executive Officer has the meaning given in the Medicare Australia Act 1973.
Centrelink means the agency established by subsection 6(1) of the Commonwealth Services Delivery Agency Act 1997.
Centrelink CEO has the same meaning as the expression Chief Executive Officer in the Commonwealth Services Delivery Agency Act 1997.
4.             Direction to perform function
                Under paragraph 5(1)(d) of the Act, the Chief Executive Officer is directed to perform the function of providing assistance to:
(a)          the Secretary of the Department of Human Services, including in relation to the management of the Department; and
(b)         the Centrelink CEO, including in relation to the management of Centrelink.
