I, ANTHONY NORMAN ALBANESE, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, make this Determination under subsection 61AE(3) of the Shipping Registration Act 1981.

1              Name of Determination
                This Determination is the Australian International Shipping Register (Minimum Wages) Determination 2012.
2              Legislative Instrument
                This Determination is a legislative instrument for the purposes of the Legislative Instruments Act 2003.
3              Commencement
                This Determination commences on 1 July 2012.
4              Definitions
                In this Determination:
Act means the Shipping Registration Act 1981.
AMSA means the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.
ITF template agreement has the same meaning as in the Act.
Work agreement has the same meaning as in the Navigation Act 1912.
5              Object
                Subsection 61AE(1) of the Act requires the work agreement of a seafarer to specify the amount of the seafarer’s wages, or the method for working that out.  Subsection 61AE(2) provides that the amount of the wages must not be less than the relevant amount determined by me under subsection 61AE(3).
                This Determination sets out the minimum amount of wages of seafarers performing particular types of work.
6              Amount of wages 2012
                For subsection 61AE(3) of the Act, for the period 1 July 2012 to 31 December 2012, the amount of wages for a seafarer performing the work of a classification set out in an item in column 1 of Schedule 1 is the amount specified in column 2 of that item.
7              Amount of wages 2013
                For subsection 61AE(3) of the Act, for the period 1 January 2013 to 31 December 2013, the amount of wages for a seafarer performing the work of a classification set out in an item in column 1 of Schedule 2 is the amount specified in column 2 of that item.
8              Amount of wages 2014
                For subsection 61AE(3) of the Act, for the period 1 January 2014 to 31 December 2014, the amount of wages for a seafarer performing the work of a classification set out in an item in column 1 of Schedule 3 is the amount specified in column 2 of that item.
9              ITF template agreement
                The amount of wages in Schedules 1, 2 and 3:
(a)       are expressed in US dollars;
(b)      are the amounts payable per calendar month; and
(c)       are not less than the amount of wages specified in the ITF template agreement for the work identified by the classification.
