AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Applicability:
RB211-524D4 engines installed in Boeing 747 aircraft as specified in the requirement document.

Requirement:
Perform a health check on the fuel flow regulator in accordance with Rolls-Royce Service Bulletin No. 71-7383 Revision 3 dated September 2, 1988 or later approved revision.
Note:  UK CAA AD G-010-05-84 refers.

Compliance:
Periodically as specified in the requirement document.

 
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 30 April 2012.

Background:
CASA has reviewed state-of-design ADs applicable to RB211 engines and decided G-010-05-84 should be explicitly mandated for Australian aircraft.
