AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Engine - IP Compressor Rotor and IP Turbine Discs

Applicability:
RB211-524 engines installed in Boeing 747, 767 and Lockheed L-1011 aircraft as specified in the requirement document.

Requirement:
Withdraw from service any IP compressor rotor drum and IP turbine discs which have been subjected to N2 overspeed as specified in Rolls-Royce Service Bulletin No. 72‑5887 Revision 4 dated September 25, 1998 or later approved revision.
Note:  UK CAA AD G-009-06-82 refers.

Compliance:
Following N2 overspeed as specified in the requirement document.

 
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 30 April 2012.

Background:
CASA has reviewed state-of-design ADs applicable to RB211 engines and decided G-009-06-82 should be explicitly mandated for Australian aircraft.
