AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
On the effective date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below repeals Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/A320/7 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.001 (1) of CASR 1998 and subsection 33 (3) of the Acts Interpretation Act 1901. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct an unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Applicability:
This AD applies to all Airbus Industrie A320 models.

Requirement:
The registered operator is required to take action in accordance with Airbus Industrie Service Bulletins A320-24-1022 (mod 21052) and A320-24-1035 (mod 21736).
Note:  Direction Générale de l’Aviation Civile (DGAC) AD 89-198-004(B)R1 also refers.

Compliance:
The registered operator must take the required action before the end of 31 December 2013.

 
The effective date of this AD is 15 November 2013.

Background:
Airbus Industrie have advised that the modifications contained in the referenced Service Bulletins are necessary to improve the lightning protection of the GCU in order to prevent malfunction.
AD/A320/7 was issued in 1990 and applied to A320-111, A320-211 and A320-231 aircraft. It referenced DGAC AD 89-198-004(B).
In 1992, the DGAC issued AD 89-198-004(B)R1.
This AD is issued to update the DGAC AD reference and to apply the requirement to all A320 models.
There are no changes to the requirement in AD/A320/7.
