Amendment Statement of Principles
concerning
 
ISCHAEMIC HEART DISEASE
No. 33 of 2014
 
for the purposes of the
 
Veterans’ Entitlements Act 1986
and
Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004
1.                     This Instrument may be cited as Amendment Statement of Principles concerning ischaemic heart disease No. 33 of 2014.
2.                     The Repatriation Medical Authority amends, under subsection 196B(8) of the Veterans’ Entitlements Act 1986, Statement of Principles concerning ischaemic heart disease Instrument No. 89 of 2007, as amended by Instrument No. 43 of 2009, Instrument No. 96 of 2010, and Instrument No. 125 of 2011, by:
A.        Inserting new factors "(vd)" and "(ve)" following factor "(vc)" in clause 6 as follows:
"(vd)    for acute myocardial infarction or sudden death from ischaemic heart disease only, undertaking physical activity of six METs or more within the 24 hours before the clinical onset of ischaemic heart disease; or"; and
"(ve)    for acute myocardial infarction or sudden death from ischaemic heart disease only, being exposed to:
(i)                 an environment of extreme heat during a heatwave; or
(ii)               an environment of extreme cold during a cold snap; or
(iii)             an abrupt alteration of temperature by ten degrees Celsius or more, to extreme heat or to extreme cold;
for a period of at least six hours within the seven days before the clinical onset of ischaemic heart disease; or";
B         Inserting new factors "(rrd)" and "(rre)" following factor "(rrc)" in clause 6 as follows:
"(rrd)   for acute myocardial infarction or sudden death from ischaemic heart disease only, undertaking physical activity of six METs or more within the 24 hours before the clinical worsening of ischaemic heart disease; or"; and
"(rre)    for acute myocardial infarction or sudden death from ischaemic heart disease only, being exposed to:
(i)                 an environment of extreme heat during a heatwave; or
(ii)               an environment of extreme cold during a cold snap; or
(iii)             an abrupt alteration of temperature by ten degrees Celsius or more, to extreme heat or to extreme cold;
for a period of at least six hours within the seven days before the clinical worsening of ischaemic heart disease; or"; and
C.                 Inserting definitions of "cold snap", " extreme cold", "extreme heat" and "heatwave" in clause 9 as follows:
'"cold snap" means three or more days of unusually low maximum and minimum temperatures;';
'"extreme cold" means zero degrees Celsius or below;';
'"extreme heat" means forty degrees Celsius or above;' and
'"heatwave" means three or more days of unusually high maximum and minimum temperatures;'.
3.                     The amendments made by this instrument apply to all matters to which Instrument No. 89 of 2007, as amended by Instrument No. 43 of 2009, Instrument No. 96 of 2010, and Instrument No. 125 of 2011; section 120A of the Veterans’ Entitlements Act 1986 and section 338 of the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004 apply.
4.                     The amendments made by this instrument take effect from 26 March 2014.
