Exemption — power-assisted glider at the Australian International Air Show, Avalon
1          Duration
                 This instrument:
(a)   commences on 19 February 2015; and
(b)   expires at the end of 1 March 2015, as if it had been repealed by another instrument.
2          Repeal
                 Instrument CASA EX156/14 is repealed.
3          Application
                 This instrument applies to operations:
(a)   at the Australian International Air Show 2015 (the Air Show) at Avalon aerodrome as organised by Aviation Development Australia Limited (the organiser); and
(b)   engaged in by Robert Jay Carlton, holder of FAA Commercial Pilot Licence number 3454109 (the pilot), while acting as pilot in command of the H101 Salto jet-powered glider with FAA registration number N‑101AZ (the aircraft); and
(c)   that are approved by the organiser.
4          Exemptions
        (1)     The aircraft and the pilot are exempt from compliance with the requirements of the following provisions of the Civil Aviation Regulations 1988 (CAR 1988):
(a)   Parts 4, 4A, 4B, 4C, 4D and 7;
(b)   subregulations 83 (1), (2) and (3) in respect of VHF equipment;
(c)   Part 11 (other than regulations 140, 143, 144, 149, 150, 151, 152 and 153);
(d)   regulations 230 and 252.
        (2)     The aircraft and the pilot are exempt from compliance with the requirements of each provision in Part 61 of CASR 1998.
        (3)     While participating in the night display organised by the organiser at the Air Show, the pilot in command and the operator of the aircraft are exempt from compliance with the requirements of the following provisions:
(a)   paragraph 155 (1) (a) of CAR 1988;
(b)   subregulation 195 (1) of CAR 1988;
(c)   subregulations 196 (1) and 196 (3) of CAR 1988 relating to the display of navigation and anti-collision lights;
(d)   subregulation 207 (2) of CAR 1988, only to the extent of the directions under subregulation 207 (2) that are contained in paragraph 3 of Appendix V of Civil Aviation Order (CAO) 20.18;
(e)   paragraphs 5.1, 5.3, 6.1, 6.3 and 6.6 of CAO 95.4.
5          Conditions
                 The exemptions are subject to the conditions mentioned in Schedule 1.
Schedule 1          Conditions
      1     The pilot and the aircraft, to the extent applicable, must comply with all other provisions contained in CAO 95.4 with the exception of the exempted paragraphs mentioned in paragraph 4 (3) (e).
      2     The pilot must comply with any limitations or conditions that are endorsed on his FAA Commercial Pilot Licence number 3454109.
      3     The navigation lights must not be displayed if the pyrotechnics fitted to the aircraft are operating.
