THE WHITE PHOSPHORUS MATCHES
PROHIBITION ACT

WHITE PHOSPHORUS MATCHES PROHIBITION.

1. This Act may be cited as the White Phosphorus Shofiti*e.
Matches Prohibition Act.

2. In this Act- Interpretation.

"white phosphorus" means the substance usually known
as white or yellow phosphorus.

3. (1) It shall not be lawful for any person to use E:tfb$;yf

Superintendent of Police or any subordinate police officer
of the Police Force duly authorized by such Assistant
Superintendent of Police, at any time to take for analysis
sufficient samples of any material in use or mixed for use:

Provided that the occupier may, at any time when the
sample is taken, and on providing the necessary appliances,
require such Assistant Superintendent of Police or subordi-
nate police officer to divide the samples so taken into two
parts and to mark, seal, and deliver to him one part.

4. It shall not be lawful for any person to sell, or to
offer or expose for sale, or to have in his possession for the
purposes of sale, any matches made with white phosphorus.

5. It shall not be lawful to introduce or attempt to
introduce into Antigua and Barbuda matches made with
white phosphorus.

6. Any person offending against the provisions of this
Act or interfering with or obstructing the police in the exe-
cution of their duty shall, on summary conviction, be liable
to a penalty not exceeding three thousand dollars, and all
white phosphorus, or matches made with white phosphorus,
found in his possession, may be seized by any officer of
police and may be forfeited and destroyed by order of the
Court.

7. All penalties under this Act shall be recoverable
summarily in manner directed by the Magistrate's Code of
Procedure Act.
