T H E FEMALE PERSONS O F UNSOUND MIND
(PROTECTION) ACT

FEMALE PERSONS O F UNSOUND MIND
(PROTECTION)

(14th June, 1923.)

1. This Act may be cited as the Female Persons of
Unsound Mind (Protection) Act.

2. In this Act- Interpretation

"institution for persons of unsound mind" means an
asylum, hospital or licensed house;

"person of unsound mind" includes an idiot;

'6 manager" in relation to an institution for persons of
unsound mind means the superintendent of an
asylum, the resident medical officer or superinten-
dent of a hospital, and the resident licensee of a
licensed house.

Abuse of female 3. If any manager, officer, nurse, attendant, groom,
person of
unsound mind. messenger or other person employed in or about any institu-

tion for persons of unsound mind (including an asylum for
criminal persons of unsound mind) or any person having
the care or charge of any single patient or any attendant
of any single patient carnally knows or attempts to have carnal
knowledge of any female under care or treatment as a person
of unsound mind in the institution or as a single patient he
shall be guilty of a misdemeanour and on conviction shall
be liable to be imprisoned with or without hard labour for
any term not exceeding two years; and no consent or alleged
consent of such female thereto shall be any defence to an '

indictment or prosecution for such offence.
