CHAPTER 43

T H E BARBUDA (EXTENSION OF LAWS OF
ANTIGUA) ACT

Arrangement of Sections
Section

1. Short title.
2. Whenever Her Majesty shall annex Barbuda to Antigua

the former Island shall be subject to laws
of Antigua.

3 . When Act shall take effect.

BARBUDA (EXTENSION OF LAWS O F ANTIGUA)

1. This Act may be cited as the Barbuda (Extension short title,
of Laws of Antigua) Act.

2. Whenever Her Majesty shall be pleased to order ~ ~ ; ~ ; e ; h ~ ; r
or declare that the Island of Barbuda shall be annexed to ~ ~ ~ b ~ d ~
or made or deemed a dependency of Antigua, the said Island t o Antigua the

former Island
of Barbuda shall be subject to all such laws and statutes as shall be subject
shall be in force in Antigua, or shall at any time thereafter to laws of

Antigua.

be enacted by the Legislature, and shall not be disallowed
by Her Majesty, Her Heirs or successors, in the same man-
ner as if Barbuda had originally formed part of the Colony
of Antigua.

3. This Act shall not have effect until Her Majesty's
pleasure shall be signified thereon.

An Act to enable Her Majesty to confirm an Act passed
by the Legislature of Antigua, intituled "An Act to extend
the Operation of the Laws of Antigua to the Island of
Barbuda".

Whereas in the month of September, one thousand eight
hundred and fifty-eight, an Act was passed by the Legislature
of Her Majesty's Island of Antigua, intituled "An Act to
extend the Operation of the Laws of Antigua to the Island
of Barbuda", and it was provided in the said Act that the
same should not have effect until Her Majesty's pleasure
should be signified thereon:

And whereas doubts are entertained respecting the com-
petency of the said Legislature to enact the said Act and of
Her Majesty to ratify and confirm the same:

Be it therefore enacted by the Queen's most Excellent
Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords
Spiritual and Temporal and Commons, in this present Parlia-
ment assembled, and by the authority of the same, as
follows-

. It shall be lawful for Her Majesty, with the advice
of Her Privy Council, to ratify and confirm the said Act,
and the said Act shall, from the day on which it shall have
been so ratified and confirmed, be deemed to be valid and
effectual within the said Islands of Antigua and Barbuda,
to all intents and for all purposes whatever.
